Growing food.
Growing people.
Growing community.
Love Community Garden is a garden in Nelson neighborhood in Muskegon, MI that bring neighbors together to grow food, build skills, and share produce. We run programs for seniors and youth, host a giving table for neighbors to share resources, and create a welcoming space for connection and growth. A social experiment in community care, healthy food access, and joyful gardening.
SPoP
Senior Power of Produce
Since 2016, the Senior Power of Produce (SPoP) program has welcomed nearly 2,000 seniors (age 60+) each week to the Muskegon Farmers Market from mid-July through August. Participants receive weekly vouchers—$6 in 2023—to purchase fresh, healthy produce, helping promote better nutrition and overall wellness.
While the program is not income-based, it plays an important role in addressing food insecurity and malnutrition among older adults. In addition to fresh produce, seniors can connect with local organizations offering valuable resources and support services at the market.
SPoP is made possible through the leadership of the Fruitport/Shoreline Lions Club , dedicated volunteers, and strong partnerships with the City of Muskegon , Senior Resources (Senior Millage) , and surrounding communities. Beyond nutrition, the program has become a meaningful social experience that many seniors look forward to each week.
